TRADE UNIONISTS, WORKERS, WOMEN, MOTHERS, SISTERS, HAPPY MARCH 8

On International Women's Day, March 8, the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia, on behalf of all women, demands greater institutional support for gender equality and the elimination of all forms of gender-based violence and discrimination as a basis for all democratic processes in the country.

Women, members of the SSM, demand sustainable jobs, higher and more dignified salaries, healthy and safe working conditions, social security, and the realization of labor rights.

They report that a greater number of kindergartens, foster care facilities for adult family members, health care, and social security are necessary as a prerequisite for achieving a balance between work, work, and fulfilling the needs of the family.
They stand for equal conditions, opportunities, and obligations in the care of children and the family, without stereotypes and prejudices.

The Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia points to the significance of International Women's Day - March 8, which aims to raise awareness of the need to create a society of gender equality and equal opportunities for men and women as a basic prerequisite for active, creative, and productive participation. of all citizens in building and advancing the state following the example of European standards and practices.

The national legal regulation has established equal democratic rights for both sexes, but in practice, women are still discriminated against and faced with the decision of whether to have a career and work or decide to look after children and take care of the family.

There are still employers who discourage women in such a way that they do not hire them, and if they hire them, they assign them to lower positions and lower salaries than their male colleagues, regardless of the fact that women are equally qualified, trained, and productive.

The only reason for this attitude towards women workers is because of their reproductive role, care for children, and housework.

Discrimination against women and gender stereotypes are still present and current in some companies, and often managers and employers treat pregnancy as a risk and an obstacle for women's employment.

Progress in the field of gender equality and strengthening the positions of women in society is a slow process, full of challenges, and therefore it is necessary to continue the fight for economic and social equality of women in the coming period. Women should lead the activities to improve their economic and social position, but of course, the importance of an integrated approach in solving problems together with men should be noted.

From the previous work of the Union of Trade Unions of Macedonia, it can be confirmed with certainty that women trade unionists are empowered and informed about their legal rights, and thus are particularly determined in the procedures for securing a real and justified place and position in companies and society. Trade union-organized women workers are uncompromising when it comes to realizing labor rights, they participate in social dialogue and collective negotiation, and they are also equal participants in trade union protests and strikes.

This is a good tendency that should be supported and developed because the fight for gender equality is far from over, it is still current and necessary, until the creation of a society of equal workers and citizens without discrimination on any basis.
