28 APRIL, WORLD DAY FOR OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH AT WORK

The healthy and safe working conditions of the workers are continuously in the focus of the engagement of the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia. They are an imperative of the ILO's concept of decent work, and thus our priority and constant challenge.

The Covid crisis confirmed that health is a basic precondition for all social and economic processes in the country, because workers and citizens are the most important resource of the state, they are the driving force of development processes in all areas.

CCM stands for the concept of integrated action of all social partners, the scientific, professional public and the civil sector in order to promote healthy and safe working conditions.

The social dialogue on this plan is being strengthened and improved from year to year, but SSM believes that optimal conditions for complete safety and security have not been provided yet, as well as for ensuring continuous improvement of the situation with healthy and safe working conditions in companies.

The most significant contribution to the promotion of healthy and safe working conditions through social dialogue and joint action of all stakeholders in society, is provided through the National Council for OSH where CCM has its representatives. In the coming period, activities should be taken to strengthen its role and importance in the overall processes in this area.

As a representative trade union and current social partner, SSM participates in the creation of the legal framework in the field of safety and health at work and gave an active contribution to the procedure for adoption of the Law on OSH and its amendments.

The amendments to the law made at the initiative of CCM were aimed at ensuring the active role of the president of the trade union as well as the representative of the employees for safety and health at work in the procedures for providing healthy and safe working conditions in the workplace, as well as in the processes of strengthening social dialogue and collective bargaining in this area.

The priority of CCM in the coming period will be the regulation of the rights and obligations of workers and employers in this area through collective agreements as bilateral binding acts.

SSM is permanently working on the plan of building the capacities of its membership and the trade union leaderships to gain knowledge about the rights and obligations of workers in the field of safety and health at work, only trained and qualified workers are able to take care of their health and safety to all during the work process.

We expect the employers to realize their part of the obligations in this plan, each in his own company, because according to the international labor standards for providing healthy and safe working conditions in the workplace, the employers are primarily responsible.

Finally, I would like to mention that CCM is open for cooperation with inspection and other state bodies, representatives of employers, the scientific, professional public and civil society in order to improve the situation to ensure healthy and safe working conditions for all workers.
