Celebrating the World Day of Decent Work, October 7, the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia points out that its overall commitment is based on consistent respect for the ILO's concept of decent work.
CSM continuously points out that workers' rights and the dignity of labour are the basis for the development of economic, social and welfare policies in the country and that the dignity of workers and citizens must be fully respected by both the owners of capital and employers and the creators of government in the country.
In doing so, SSM, as a representative trade union and social partner in the country, emphasises:
-There is no decent work without decent wages that will satisfy the real existential needs of workers and their families. Every worker must have access to health and pension insurance, as well as unemployment support, i.e. full social protection.
SSM points out that salaries in the country significantly lag behind the real cost of living, that they create poverty, encourage mass migration and therefore their increase is necessary and urgent, the increase in salaries must enable a dignified life.
-Workers in Macedonia face low salaries, insecure jobs and limited participation in decision-making processes.
Therefore, SSM demands a social agreement and dialogue that will provide fair opportunities and social security, respect and protection of workers' rights, institutions that work in the interest of workers and citizens and institutions that will not be influenced by corruption and daily politics
-There is no dignified life without developmental economic measures and activities, and the creation of real conditions for new promising investments. Restrictive measures, austerity, stagnation of salaries, pensions and other incomes of workers and citizens in conditions of high inflation and rising prices of basic living products encourage poverty, reduce purchasing power, devalue labor and destroy the dignity of workers and citizens.
-There is no decent work without real, sustainable and secure jobs, with permanent employment contracts. We do not agree with temporary and occasional work engagements with minimal earnings, without paid contributions and without any social protection and security, which is why we advocate for measures and activities to suppress the gray economy and undeclared work.
-There is no decent work without laws in the labor and legal field that will be based on international labor standards and will guarantee a 40-hour work week, limitation of overtime work, the right to daily, weekly and annual leave, healthy and safe working conditions, etc.
-There is no decent work without developed social dialogue and collective bargaining at all levels
-There is no decent work without respect for the right to organize and associate
-There is no decent work without respect for the right to equality and democracy, without discrimination and full protection of human rights, green economy, just transition, care for the human environment and sustainable development.
On this occasion, we once again point out that the goal - providing decent work for all, can only be achieved if all of us, social partners, unions, employers, government, non-governmental sector, expert and professional public unite and effectively implement jointly created activities aimed at developing economic and social relations, but at the same time with full respect for workers' and civil rights and human dignity.
