The Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM) organized a two-day professional-specialized workshop on the topic: "Protection of workers in the process of just transition and ensuring social security" as part of the Project - TRADE UNIONS AND JUST TRANSITION PROCESSES: THE ROLE, SIGNIFICANCE, FUTURE TRADE UNION STEPS OF SUPPORT AND ACTIVISM THAT WILL PROVIDE PROTECTED WORKERS AND LABOR RIGHTS, funded by the International Labor Organization (ILO).

The support that the Federation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (SSM) has received from the ILO over the years is of great importance, so only a small part of the long-term successful cooperation can be counted as the successful implementation of a large number of projects with different priorities, trainings, as well as financial support for the implementation of various trade union activities.
The implementation of a project that will be dedicated to the processes of just transition is part of the work program of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Macedonia (CSM) for 2025, and the organisation and implementation of this project, with a special focus on the construction, energy and agricultural sectors, was made possible precisely thanks to the support of the ILO.

SSM, as the largest trade union in our country, will dedicate itself in the coming months to implementing a Project with activities in different parts of our country dedicated to the topic of the role and significance of trade unions in the processes of just transition and future trade union steps of support and activism that will ensure protected workers and workers' rights during the successful implementation of this necessary for humanity process, and the organization and implementation of a two-day workshop on the topic "Protection of workers in the process of just transition and ensuring social security" officially marked the beginning of this project.
The two-day workshop was attended by representatives from all branch trade unions, members of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Macedonia, and union representatives from the construction, energy and agricultural sectors, as the most affected in the just transition, took a particularly active part. The workshop was opened by the President of the CSM, Slobodan Trendafilov, as presidents of those branch unions affiliated with the CSM that come from sectors that will have a huge role and will need to try to find solutions to many challenges that will arise throughout the process of just transition, because undoubtedly the workers who are union members of these branch unions will be faced with changes for which they will need not only state support but also the support of the unions they are members of. That is why, for the purposes of this workshop, the CSM engaged a trainer-expert in the field of just transition, Kosta Petrovski, who led this two-day workshop in order to achieve the main goal, which is to strengthen the capacity of the participants who are union representatives from various sectors, so that they can more easily understand and apply the principles of just transition and to ensure social security for workers through their activities in the union organizations from which they come.
