EMPLOYER SURVEY CONFIRMS: SALARY LEVEL — A KEY MOTIVATOR FOR EMPLOYEES

The Employers' Organisation of Macedonia (EOM) presented the study on the state of the workforce and social dialogue in the water supply sector, conducted within the framework of the project "Promoting and strengthening social dialogue in the water sector through innovative approaches" (ProSDinWater), funded by the European Union.

The research covered four countries – Macedonia, Bulgaria, Italy and Malta – and confirmed the need for greater care for employees, especially through better salaries and working conditions.

According to the data, 100% of the surveyed employers and employees singled out the salary level as the main motivator when choosing and retaining a job. This, as stated by the employers themselves, is a clear signal that increasing salaries is necessary if companies want to retain quality and qualified workers.

Additionally, 69.3% of respondents believe that social dialogue at the sectoral level contributes to better working conditions, and 83.3% of employees assess the effectiveness of social dialogue in companies as positive.

The survey also points to other important factors that influence the motivation and productivity of workers – health care and prevention (97%), safety and technical equipment in the workplace (99%), as well as the need for continuous training, digitalisation and fair organisation of working hours (96%).

ORM emphasises that social dialogue and collective bargaining in Macedonia are still not sufficiently used, although they have proven to be key mechanisms for preventing social and union conflicts and for creating a stable and motivated workforce.
